Street Skins is the expression of a fascination with the oft-ignored textures and topographies of urban landscapes.  Cobblestones, archways, stapled telephone poles, incised graffiti, and iron grates are literally 'captured' in high relief in a rich array of colors.

In a technique developed during an artist residency in Switzerland, I use highly-sensitive handmade Japanese papers and water-based binders, stretching and pounding the materials over varying surfaces.  I mix pigment and binder together to make my own inks -- powdery blues, rusty reds, mossy greens, metallic golds and bronzes -- that are then applied in multiple layers over the paper’s surface.

Each work is unique and one-of-a-kind. While some of the works are representative of their street of origin, others are cut and ripped and stitched into layered collages and long scrolls that combine sidewalk with building, stone with metal.
